For students and those interested in starting a new hobby, faux flower arranging can be a highly rewarding pass time.
The longevity of the faux flowers or silk flowers means that once you’ve finished you get to enjoy your display all season long. Rather than just a few days which is often the case with fresh.
The other wonderful thing about faux flower and silk flower arranging is you don’t’ have to wait for what’s in season, you only need to select your colour palate and get stuck in.
Start your arrangement with floral foam to keep the stems in place and stabilized. Floral foam comes in all shapes and sizes and can be resized according to your container.
Depending on where you place your faux flowers, consider whether you need to build your bouquet vertically or horizontally. For horizontal arrangements, use a shallow vase or container. You should think about the shape of your silk flower arrangement – is it going to be round, oval, tall – what are you trying to achieve?
For vertical faux flower arrangements, make sure the silk flowers are at least 1.5 times the height of the vase or container. Large-scale arrangements can have an interesting effect, but make sure they are proportional to your container. For narrow, tall arrangements, use a rubber band to hold the stems together and keep the bouquet in place.
